LOVE: An Illustrated Guide

If like me you cringe at the sight of all those cliched Valentine's Day gestures: plastic-wrapped bunches of 24 red roses, chocolates in heart-shaped boxes, 'I love you' teddy bears,

The Cat Cafe in London

If you're a big cat person like me, you'll be excited to find out about Lady Dinah's Cat Cafe in Shoreditch. It's London's first-ever café of its kind, which takes inspiration from the Japanese who are already BIG on this kind of thing – apparently it's a trend that started out in Osaka 10 years ago. The idea is that you book a 90-minute slot so you can relax, eat and drink in the company of the café's 12 resident felines.

Aussie Lauren Pears opened the cafe early last year by raising £108K through a crowdfunding campaign, with 3000 bookings made in the first 4.5 hours after it announced its opening day. Until I plan my visit, I couldn't resist a little peek inside to meet the friendly pets.

Lady Dinah's serves afternoon and high tea and sells an... interesting selection of memorabilia, such as necklaces, fridge magnets, totes bags, and mugs... must-buys for any cat and kitsch lover.

You'll find Lady Dinah's at 152 Bethnal Green Road, Shoreditch.

A Compendium of 1970s Camping Scenes

Speaking of camping, our weekend on the wild side sent me on a trip down memory lane thinking about all those fun family camping trips and my parents' 70s

The Time we Spent a Weekend on the Wild Side

I wanted to tell you about my amazing wild camping trip – I had the time of my life and wish you'd come too! I love camping and every year I hanker after a trip when summer wanderlust is in the air.

This year, the idea of wild camping in a forest close to home appealed so we checked into a place called Blackberry Wood just a 20-minute drive outside Brighton in the Sussex countryside, where it's all about 'proper' camping in the woods and meadows and lighting fires.

The site is split into three sections centered around a small field of novelty 'glamping' accommodation. There's a bright red Routemaster double-decker bus, with a kitchen/diner downstairs and a soft-play area upstairs which converts into a bedroom.

...a vintage caravan from the 1960s called 'Double Bubble', which sleeps four people and is completely original inside.

...and a gypsy caravan built in the 1930s hidden away in a pretty sheltered outside area for cosy breakfasts and dinner.

The newest addition is the 'curvy cabin', bought from the Grand Design Show in 2012 which has a double bed and a bunk room for kids.

In case you forget anything, there's a handy shop inside a pretty painted shed selling all the essentials.

We made our way across the country lane to the 'Wild Side' with its pretty hidden glades and mind-blowing wildflower meadow filled with pitches cut into the tall grass – there's so much space between each pitch you feel as though you have the field all to yourself.

The best part? Every pitch has its own fire pit, so you can sit up and BBQ, drink wine, toast marshmallows and listen to the crackling fire...

What's also amazing about this place is that you don't need to touch your car all weekend; you can just walk off into the South Downs, map in hand, and it's only 30 minutes walk through fields to the nearest (gastro) pub.

Which means it's also an easy walk back to camp before the sun sets and another campfire session...

Summer Cocktail of the Week: El Diablo

El Diablo cocktail Street Feast

As a rule, I don't like tequila much. I have too many memories of getting sick on it in my 20s, so I tend to avoid it. That was until I went to hipsterville hang out, the Street Feast food market in East London and spotted someone drinking this lusty-worthy concoction. Turns out the cocktail in questions is called an El Diablo and is full of tequila, but I got stuck in regardless and did not regret it. Recreate your own version of the El Diablo here:

2 shots tequila
1 shot creme de cassis
1 shot fresh lime juice
ginger beer
lime wedge

Mix the first three ingredients together and pour over ice. Top with ginger beer and garnish with a lime wedge.
